Spotlight on Bowen Gines. Bowen graduated from Morgan High, served a mission in Nicaragua, went to WSU, married his wonderful wife Linsey, had 4 awesome children, personally built the blue house on Highland Drive (where he and his family live now), and has worked an amazing number of interesting jobs.  Starting at a young age up to today, here are some of the many entrepreneurial work adventures of Bowen Gines: selling rabbits, chopping wood, construction work, life insurance, breeding dogs, started online search engine optimization business, started website for inventors, tree removal service, owns Authentic Roofing, podcaster and trainer for how to start a business, general contractor, writing a book called The Tradesman Millionaire, custom builder of sheds, inventor with provisional patents pending, and this year he added a snow removal service!  Currently Bowen spends much of his time building homes to rent. When asked about Bowen, his wife Linsey says, “Many people don’t know that Bowen is a great singer. He used to sing in a quartet and serenaded me on our third date. He also sang to me at our wedding reception. He’s a fun dad who likes to wrestle, hunt, and play video games with the kids. He can fix anything. He’s confident, kind and cool-headed.” If Bowen’s kids said, “My dad is stronger than your dad,” they’d actually be right!  Bowen believes you can do anything if you put your mind to it, be consistent, and work hard.  He believes that God never gives up on us, always loves us, and is happy for us as we stumble, learn, and grow – just like parents are happy for their toddlers as they learn, grow, and overcome stumbling.”  We’re so grateful that Bowen and his family have made the Highlands their home!

Sunday’s Lesson: In Case You Missed It. Brother Robin Porter facilitated our Sunday lesson based on Elder Kevin Pearson’s conference address, “Are You Still Willing?”.  Robin said that the key takeaways are that keeping covenants must be more than good intentions. Partaking of the sacrament is not a passive religious ritual implying our mere consent. It is a powerful reminder of the reality of the Savior’s infinite Atonement and the need to always remember Him and keep His commandments. Willingness to focus on the Savior is so crucial it is the central message of the two most quoted scriptures in the Church: the sacrament prayers. The Church is a gathering place for imperfect individuals who love God and who are willing to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. That willingness is rooted in the reality that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. This divine truth can be known only by the power of the Holy Ghost. Therefore, our willingness is directly proportionate to the amount of time we commit to be in holy places where the influence of the Holy Ghost is present. Today, as in the times of Jesus, there will be those who will turn back, unwilling to accept the price of discipleship. As harsh and hateful criticism is increasingly leveled at the Savior’s Church and those who follow Him, our discipleship will require a greater willingness to straighten and strengthen our spiritual spines. May we strengthen our relationship with the Savior by being willing to always remembering him and follow his commandments.
