Blood Drive. Join us on April 12 at the Highlands Ward for the American Red Cross blood drive.

Spotlight on Ken Wallace. Ken and his wife Helen moved to Mtn Green from Lake Tahoe in 2004; they live at 6770 N. Highland Drive. Ken was born on Aug 25th in Modesto, California, a city that his Wallace ancestors played a major role in establishing. After graduating from Modesto HS and Modesto Junior College in the 50’s, Ken applied to the USAF Academy and was accepted; however, his health information was re-reviewed and he was disqualified for minor health issues. This major disappointment didn’t deter Ken as he enlisted in the Army and was given the opportunity to attend West Point Prep School, which enabled him to get a Presidential Appointment to West Point on his own merits. On June 6, 1962, he graduated with a BS in Engineering and married Helen a few days later in the Cadet Chapel – later they were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. Their three children have blessed them with 9 grandchildren. Ken served our country for 27 years before retiring in 1982. Tours included: getting a Master’s degree; instructor at West Point; two tours to Vietnam; 3 years in Germany (before “The Wall” came down); being a Battalion Commander; etc. Ken has willingly and faithfully served in many church callings including: Bishop, Stake Missionary, Group Leader (Vietnam), High Councilman (Germany), Scoutmaster, Scout Committee Chairman, Family History Consultant, Temple Worker, etc. Ken & Helen served a mission to Paris, France (2005-07) supporting the Paris Church Institute. Currently, Ken serves with Helen in the Ward Library and as Ward Missionaries. Ken’s goal at this point in his life is to continue living a worthy life and to be the Lord’s servant. He has spent countless hours searching his family’s history, a favorite activity, even though it was laborious compared to now. And through his labors, he discovered that he has early pioneer ancestors! Two prominent people he has met were General Douglas MacArthur and President John F. Kennedy – both at West Point.

Emergency Preparedness.
How did you do with our recent power outage? Food is not all we need to store. Check to see if you have a sufficient supply of batteries, matches, lighters, candles, and flashlights. Also, store a supply of garbage bags in multiple sizes. Be sure to consider your stock of cleaning supplies and rags. Have some activities in case you want to pass time in a happy way! What would you do if you couldn’t rely on electronics for your entertainment?!?
